Namaste

It's been quite a whirlwind of work.

Like just about everybody else around me, I've not been the most motivated of individuals when it comes to schoolwork. I'm just sitting there rotting and watching the homework go to hell but I'll get down to it eventually. Which means a long week ahead. Gah. At long last, the slackness must stop.

The fact that I've landed an internship of choice (not just my choice) is finally starting to sink in a little. I had long given up hopes of entering this industry and was considering a number of other options, trying to explore to see what else I can do. This internship is starting to revive my hopes a little, and maybe it's just the big kick in the butt I need to get myself moving again.

But as with all things in life, you can't really have them all. Having to cancel on my debating teammates is perhaps one of the most horrible things I have had to do in a long long time, and then there's the problem with my conference thingamajig in July. It's not entirely all settled but I think we're finally moving along.

In fact, getting back to debating, it's really been quite a rough week, but at the same time, I think I've really built some strong bonds with certain people in the club. Let's see...well, when the news was first broken to my teammates, obviously they didn't take too kindly to it (quite understandably so). It wasn't fun, we sat down, discussed and I got really confused, and decided to take another day to think about it.

It's times like this that you start realising who your true friends are. When you're faced with some difficult moments, a beer, it seems, always helps. But I think sometimes it's amazing how you can have friends just being able to be activated at a moment's notice. Called up my regular debating partner and in a few moments, we were chilling at another guy's place, drinking and just trying to put perspective to things.

I know that for a bunch of guys who fall into the generic group of guys known as "Indians" (as in from India), they're probably not that well-received in the university. But what really struck me at the end of that conversation was the fact that these guys wanted so much to just help me that they put aside their studying for a test, and in terms of providing advice, feedback and all that, everyone was pushing towards what appeared to be in my personal interests more than anything else. I mean, you had to be there to really see the amount of concern they expressed and that's actually something quite touching.

I would blog more, but for now, I think I'll dedicate this entry to this set of friends.
